Janine's Tom Paddle 3.JPG

About Janine: I am grateful beyond words for the joy and wonder of growing up on the doorstep of Algonquin Park at my parents resort. Hard work taught me the value of sticking with something until it's done and that same determination has fueled my every move as an adult. A sense of wonder and a love of nature fostered a sensitivity and observation and helped me to develop a keen eye for scoping out painting spots. When something takes my breath away I definitely want to paint it!

I studied art and graduated with a B.A. in Fine Art from the University of Guelph and received a 3 year diploma in Design Art-Creative Art from Georgian College of Applied Arts and Technology. I've been teaching art and encouraging others for over 25 years to find their creative spirit which brings me great joy. Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic and for safety and protection, I am currently only teaching online art classes.  Once it's safe again to conduct classes out of my studio or to be faculty for the Haliburton School of the Art & Design I shall leap for joy. I have been honoured to garner several awards and actively participate in arts and culture events in my hometown of Huntsville, Ontario. I am a trained picture framer and provide custom framing services in my own business True Colours Art & Design in Huntsville, Ontario.

I work in all media and teach all media with an strong emphasis on colour based on the solid foundation of composition and design. Drawing is my first passion but colour sure lights me up! Those same colour and painting skills garnered me to be commissioned as a mural painter for the Group of Seven Outdoor Gallery in Huntsville. I have volunteered my skills to paint paddles as fundraisers for the Algonquin Outfitters Paddle Art Contest.

When I'm not running my own picture framing business or teaching online, you can catch me out en plein air painting, or creating in other ways by tending to my vertical pallet garden or cooking up a storm in the kitchen, or volunteering. Art knows no boundaries. A life filled with art will never be empty. Always find joy in the journey.

I'm a kid in a candy store when it comes to art supplies. My studio is fully equipped with anything I could possibly need and filled with ferns and other happy plants. Not one to grow moss by standing still, I have projects lined up coming down the pipe.
